This Maine State Certified course includes 120 hours of classroom instruction plus 80 hours of clinical practice at local health care facilities. Requirements include a reading test, background check, interview session, physical within the last year, immunization records, and dedication to a 15 week commitment as well as 3-4 orientation-to-employment workshops preceding the CNA class. This program is intended for students who want to prepare for an exciting, challenging and rewarding career in healthcare. This program will train students to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical responsibilities of a medical office. Instruction includes among other things preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, technical aspects of phlebotomy and the cardiac life cycle. Students will review important topics including phlebotomy, pharmacology, the proper use and administration of medications, taking and documenting vital signs, cardiology including proper lead placements, a professional workplace behavior, ethics and the legal aspects of healthcare. This program includes 140 hours of classroom lecture and hands on labs and a clinical externship opportunity at a local healthcare provider. To be eligible for the clinical rotation, students must successfully complete the 140 hour program, submit to a thorough background check, drug screening and meet other requirements. Note: Upon successful completion of this program, students would be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national examination.

The Heartsaver CPR AED course combines basic CPR skills training with instruction and practice in using an AED. This is an American Heart Association Course and is intended for: · Individuals who have a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency because of job requirements. · Lay rescuers who may need to respond to an emergency in the workplace · Family members of patients at high risk for sudden cardiac death. This course covers: Adult CPR AED with and without a mask · Adult choking · Child CPR/AED (optional module) · Infant CPR (optional module) · Child and infant choking. Students must pass a skills test to qualify for a Heartsaver CPR AED Course Completion Card. Instructor Information: LisaParkin, BSN, RN- is an RN in the Education Department at MDI Hospital and is the AHA Training Center Coordinator for the MDI/Blue Hill Training Center. She has an extensive background in providing emergency care in the hospital setting and basic first aid and CPR/AED care for various organizations.
