Introduction to Soul CollageĀ®

Soul Collage® is a fun, easy, and creative way to express your inner world. Using intuition, imagination, and your willingness to explore, you will learn to create a deck of personal wisdom cards. These collaged cards represent the varied and unique aspects of who you are. They will lead you on a journey of self-discovery that will surprise even the most seasoned traveler on the path of healing and self-awareness. There is a $20 materials fee already included in the cost of the class.

Please bring at least 5 old magazines to class if possible.

About Kathryn: Born on MDI, Kathryn has returned to MDI after many years away. She is a certified SoulCollage® instructor. She has also studied Jungian dream work and has used it in her work with the general population as well as with women and children who have experienced domestic violence and individuals experiencing addiction.

Maine Driving Dynamics for 65+ year olds W19

Maine Driving Dynamics is a Maine sponsored, 5-hour defensive driving course that offers all drivers the opportunity to improve their defensive driving abilities. Course includes discussion of collision avoidance techniques, safety issues, driver habits and attitudes, and the basic elements that constantly challenge drivers on Maine highways. The class is taught by a certified Maine Driving Dynamics instructor in a format that engages students with lectures, videos, and class discussion/participation. Those completing the course will receive a three-point credit on their driving record. Students 55 and older may receive an insurance discount from their insurer.

Students under 65 years of age should register under the other listing with the fee of $40.This class has TWO sessions within ONE week.

Manners 1

Manners 1--Tired of feeling like you’re at the other end of a dog sled team? Want to be able to take your dog to the farmers market without them jumping all over everyone? Need to figure out how to get your dog to come when you really need him to? Manners 1 is the class for you! For dogs 4 months and older, this class will help you and your dog work as a team to conquer the big struggles of having an adolescent dog. We'll use positive reinforcement to practice coming when called, polite greetings (not jumping), leash walking, sit/down/stand, stay, mat training and attention training. Class meets for six weeks, first week without dogs. For non-reactive dogs only.

We’ll work through the Microsoft Office spreadsheet application, learning to organize and calculate data. You will not need to bring a laptop or purchase software to attend. Bringing a fully charged laptop is optional.

The Maine Digital Inclusion Initiative (MDII) is a program developed by the National Digital Equity Center (NDEC) to deploy teams of AmeriCorps volunteers, throughout the state of Maine,  to provide free of charge computer skills training, that is open to the public in community centers, libraries, and adult education facilities. The MDII goal is to confront barriers to digital literacy while connecting communities, employers, workers, neighbors, and decision makers around to make a positive impact on the issues of economic development through workforce education as well as technology training for older adults with aging in place concerns.

Pottery for Beginners W19

Have you ever wanted to 'throw a pot' - that is, use a potter's wheel? This extremely popular beginner's class will cover hand building techniques, forming on the potters wheel, surface decoration and treatments. Make functional handcrafted products to use and enjoy or give as holiday gifts! Material costs ($50) are included in the fee. Class will be held in the high school’s ceramic studio. No Class on Feb. 19th.

People who have never taken a pottery class will have preference until September 20th. Experienced potter's names will be entered into a lottery for any space left after 1/16/19. Please note that the materials fee for experienced potters will be $100, not $50. Experienced potters should call 288-4703 and ask to be on the 'lottery list'. Only beginner's should sign up through the website.

Puppy Class!

This class is for puppies 9-16 weeks old on the first week of class. We will focus on proper socialization, troubleshooting puppy problems, and beginning obedience. Socialization is crucial at this age in preventing fear and related problems down the road so we will practice interacting with other puppies, meeting new people, exploring new objects and surfaces and growing confidence. We will also discuss house training and crate training, play biting and jumping and use positive reinforcement to teach your puppies to sit, down, stand, stay, leave it, walking on leash and come when called.

Classes will be taught by Whitney Thurston, CPDT-KAof Salty Dog Obedience.
