Observing Birds for Beginners (includes 2 field trips)

with Craig Kesselheim

only 1 seat left

MDI is a rich place to become a bird observer in every season. Whether your interest is in getting to know your feeder birds better, or becoming a more active and informed outdoors birder, this course will be designed to be low stress, supportive, and informative introduction to our avian companions on MDI. We will improve observational skills, explore seasonal changes in bird life, and practice identification by sight, sound, season, silhouette, behavior and habitat. Evening sessions on ZOOM are designed to provide fundamentals as well as practice. Two weekend field trips will reinforce the social and practical joys of birding in real time. Young birders and their parents are welcome. Please bring binoculars to the field trips if you have them. (Let Craig know if you need to borrow a pair.)

Instructor Bio: Craig has been a birder since his early college years. He is a retired educator who lives in Southwest Harbor. His birding adventures include the western US, Canada, a bit of Europe, and a LOT of time birding Maine's varied geography and habitat. Craig guides annually with the Acadia Birding Festival and occasionally for The Natural History Center.
