This will be a hands on art history class where we will explore the American artists that shaped the art world in the early 20th century and continue to do so today. We will explore such artists as Georgia O'keefe, Edward Hopper, Helen Frankenthaller, Jasper Johns, just to name a few. With each decade and each artist we touch on, we will experiment with that artist's style and techniques, trying to create the way the artist creates. Each class will try a different style of art that America experienced in the 100 years that we study. Styles like Art Deco, Abstract art, Regionalism, Abstract Expressionism. This is a hands on art class, painting, sculpting and drawing as well as discussing the aspects of American art.
There is a pre-requisite for this class: You must know who painted Whistler's Mother.
