Calendar Jan 1, 2022

While MDI Adult Ed is unable to offer in person First Aid & CPR courses during the pandemic, we are committed to sharing courses offered by our partners and other organizations.   If you need any help connecting or preparing for this workshop, we are happy to support you!

This course will prepare you to recognize and care for a variety of emergencies.  If you're taking this course to meet OSHA requirements, please check with your workplace to determine if this online-only course is acceptable.  The course features award-winning simulation learning, an interactive experience where you will respond to real-world emergencies in a virtual setting to help prepare you to recognize and respond to first aid, breathing and cardiac emergencies involving adults.

This course requires a PC or tablet with a high speed internet connection, does not work with Internet Explorer, and is not supported on smartphones.  Allow approximately 2 hours 10 minutes to complete the course.

Certification: Red Cross courses offer Digital Certification - an online version of a Red Cross certificate, which provides anytime, anywhere access to student training history and course certificates. Digital certificates can be viewed, printed or shared online and can be accessed anytime through your Red Cross Account.  Each certificate includes a unique ID and a QR code which meets employment requirements and allows employers to easily confirm your certificate is valid.  There is no need to carry your printed certificate around anymore!

Continuing Education: Nurses, social workers, teachers and daycare providers and other professionals who need continuing education units to maintain licensure or certification can obtain CEUs through American Red Cross Training Services.

Calendar Feb 1, 2022 at 6 pm, runs for 4 weeks

The magical ukulele is capturing hearts and minds in Maine and around the world. Why not yours? Come join our adult beginners’ series and share in the fun of learning to play.

The ukulele is versatile and a blast to play (with a bit of regular practice, of course). On it you can knock out folk music, rock, blues, jazz, pop, country, tunes grandma knows -- even classical music.

Our popular instructor, Duncan Perry, who has taught students of all ages, will introduce you to essential chords and strumming techniques using familiar songs - truly a fun way to learn ukulele.  Oh, and there are lots of laughs along the way. You do not need to know how to read music.  However, you must have a playable ukulele and an electronic tuner or a tuner app on your cell phone or tablet.  Ukes are affordable and compact, and you can take them most anywhere.  When folks hear you play this happy instrument, well, they just have to smile. If you don’t own a ukulele, let us know.  Duncan will be glad to provide helpful information on buying a ukulele.  So grab a uke and get ready for a low-stress, fun-filled musical adventure, then spread the joy.

Duncan Perry, a multi-instrumentalist, has been playing ukulele for 14 years and has so far taught ukulele to over 700 adults up and down the coast of Maine and inland, too.  He regularly performs at benefits, elder care venues, senior programs, and in schools and libraries.  In addition to offering instruction through various adult education programs, he has worked with children in several communities.  His mission is to spread the joy of the ukulele across Maine!
