Join this highly popular class offered by MOFGA: Interested in learning how to grow your own vegetables in a sustainable manner? Join us for an evening-long workshop on how to grow your own garden organically. Topics covered: soil science, enriching soil, fundamentals of composting, crop rotation, use of green manures, plant vs week identification, weed control, dealing with pests, etc. The instructor is an experienced farmer or gardener in our area. Free seeds will be provided! All are welcome, from first-timers to experienced gardeners who want to experiment with new techniques. We will even send you home with free seeds!

All attendees will receive a copy of the presentation as well as resource guide.

Heartsaver CPR/AED W19

The Heartsaver CPR AED course combines basic CPR skills training with instruction and practice in using an AED. This is an American Heart Association Course and is intended for: · Individuals who have a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency because of job requirements. · Lay rescuers who may need to respond to an emergency in the workplace · Family members of patients at high risk for sudden cardiac death. This course covers: Adult CPR AED with and without a mask · Adult choking · Child CPR/AED (optional module) · Infant CPR (optional module) · Child and infant choking. Students must pass a skills test to qualify for a Heartsaver CPR AED Course Completion Card. Instructor Information: LisaParkin, BSN, RN- is an RN in the Education Department at MDI Hospital and is the AHA Training Center Coordinator for the MDI/Blue Hill Training Center. She has an extensive background in providing emergency care in the hospital setting and basic first aid and CPR/AED care for various organizations.

The Heartsaver First Aid Course provides first responders with training in basic first aid procedures- Including the first aid skills recommended by OSHA- in a format that can be delivered in a single day This course is intended for: · Security and airline personnel · Camp counselors · Police and firefighters · Teachers and day-care workers · Aerobics teachers / physical trainers · Anyone who has a duty to respond to a first aid emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements · Other individuals who want or need first aid training. This course covers: · First aid basics · Medical emergencies · Injury emergencies · Environmental emergencies Students must pass a skills test to qualify for a Heartsaver First Aid Course Completion Card. This is one of the most important computer classes you can take! Learn tips and strategies to keep you and your family safe online. Computers will be available for this training. You will not need to bring a laptop or purchase software to attend. Bringing a fully charged laptop is optional.

The Maine Digital Inclusion Initiative (MDII) is a program developed by the National Digital Equity Center (NDEC) to deploy teams of AmeriCorps volunteers, throughout the state of Maine,  to provide free of charge computer skills training, that is open to the public in community centers, libraries, and adult education facilities. The MDII goal is to confront barriers to digital literacy while connecting communities, employers, workers, neighbors, and decision makers around to make a positive impact on the issues of economic development through workforce education as well as technology training for older adults with aging in place concerns.

These collaged cards represent the varied and unique aspects of who you are. They will lead you on a journey of self-discovery that will surprise even the most seasoned traveler on the path of healing and self-awareness. There is a $20 materials fee already included in the cost of the class.

About Kathryn: Born on MDI, Kathryn has returned to MDI after many years away. She is a certified SoulCollage® instructor. She has also studied Jungian dream work and has used it in her work with the general population as well as with women and children who have experienced domestic violence and individuals experiencing addiction.

Maine Driving Dynamics for 65+ year olds W19

Maine Driving Dynamics is a Maine sponsored, 5-hour defensive driving course that offers all drivers the opportunity to improve their defensive driving abilities. Course includes discussion of collision avoidance techniques, safety issues, driver habits and attitudes, and the basic elements that constantly challenge drivers on Maine highways. The class is taught by a certified Maine Driving Dynamics instructor in a format that engages students with lectures, videos, and class discussion/participation. Those completing the course will receive a three-point credit on their driving record. Students 55 and older may receive an insurance discount from their insurer.

Students under 65 years of age should register under the other listing with the fee of $40.This class has TWO sessions within ONE week.
