Dance: A Taste of Ballroom

Learn the Basics – just enough to get you on the dance floor. We’ll a little of everything: Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, Swing, Cha Cha, Rhumba, Salsa, Charleston……all steps are very learnable!
Dance shoes and a partner are strongly suggested.

Pottery for Beginners

Have you ever wanted to 'throw a pot' - that is, use a potter's wheel? This extremely popular beginner's class will cover hand building techniques, forming on the potter’s wheel, surface decoration and treatments. Make functional handcrafted products to use and enjoy or give as holiday gifts! Material costs ($50) are included in the fee.
NOTE: No Class Feb. 18.
NOTE: The March 3 class will be held on Wednesday March 4th. Any snow dates will be made up the next day, Wednesday.

Dance: Modern Line Dance

Line dancing involves people standing in lines learning dance movements together. “Modern Line Dance” is now being used in many line dance clubs, including Pop, Latin, Irish, Big Band, Broadway, and a little Country and Disco. Dance shoes strongly suggested. Dance experience and partner are not necessary. Dance shoes or shoes with suede bottoms are strongly suggested.

Understanding How to Heat Your Home

Randy’s back!!! Last year’s hugely successful plumbing class continues now with how to best heat your home. In this class you will learn the fundamentals of home heating. We will explore the 3 Major components of a central heating system and Space Heater Options as well as look at Fuel Sources, Distribution System, types of Heat Emitters. We will also look at Heating Domestic Hot Water.
Please bring a calculator.
Randy attended 2 Year Technical College and has worked in the industry 40 Years. He has made connections with some of the top Manufacturers and Individuals Nationally and Internationally. He has travelled to Europe on several occasions as a guest of Heating Equipment Manufacturers.
Connecting Across Differences: an Introduction to Nonviolent Communication (NVC)

The goal of this training is to explore a way of thinking, acting and speaking that builds connection even during times of stress and conflict. The practical approach of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) assists us in thinking toward sustainable authentic community where everyone matters. Participants will learn & explore new skills for using conflict as an opportunity to strengthen connection to others.
This interactive workshop will provide direct experience of empathic listening and empathic problem-solving. We have direct experiences of caring deeply for our authentic self at the same time as caring for the authentic other. These skills have the potential to increase harmony and cooperation within our our families, workplace, and the larger community.
You will leave this workshop with practical concepts and skills you can put to immediate use.
Whether you want to improve your relationship with yourself, your family, coworkers or community, your participation in this workshop will open new doors and expand your options.
A full NVC Level 1 workshop is in the planning stages for MDI during 2020.
About the Instructor:
Peggy Smith is a certified trainer with the International Center for Nonviolent Communication, with over four decades of teaching experience. She is at the forefront of bringing empathic thinking and communicating to our region.
Peggy holds a M.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and was a teacher in public and alternative schools for 32 years before devoting her full time energies to this endeavor. She offers trainings in a wide variety of venues. She has posted online a Courageous Communication curriculum developed over five years with men coming out of incarceration.
She is a co-founder of the Maine NVC Network and leads their monthly newsletter team.

Learn how to maintain your website and use social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Yelp, Business My Google) to promote your small business. A website and social media can and should work in tandem, complementing each other to build a stronger online presence for your company. Social media can complement your website – and vice-versa – by linking your social activities back to your business' website. Please bring your charged laptop.
Driver's Ed Winter

Driver’s Edge Driving School offers Driver Education at MDIHS. Students must be at least 15 years old by the date of the first class. Registrations forms can be found at the MDIHS main office or contact the Adult Ed office or email email@example.com for a downloadable copy. You cannot register for this class online. A deposit of $100 must be returned with the registration form to hold the space. Checks should be made to “Driver’s Edge Driving School” and then returned to MDIHS Main Office. An email will be sent to out 7-10 days before the first class with more details.
Option: Please call Driver's Edge directly at 941-9494 to pay by credit card.
NOTE: This class will meet Feb. 12(W), 13(TH), 24(M), 25(T), 26(W) and March 2(M), 3(T), 4(W), 9(M), and 10(T). There will be no classes the week of Feb, 17th.
