Adulting 101: Money Hacks

Adulting is tough. Finances can be one of the trickiest parts of adulthood. Whether you’ve been Adulting for decades or are just getting started, banking basics, spending plans, credit scores and useful tools and apps are available to make the whole Adulting thing a little bit easier. Join Nikki Vachon from the Finance Authority of Maine for this 1-hour virtual workshop as we dive into some adulting money basics together.  This workshop is offered by FAME in partnership with adult education programs across Aroostook, Hancock, Penobscot and Washington Counties.

Nikki Vachon, College Access Counselor at FAME will be sharing information about programs that student loan borrowers might want to take advantage of. She has worked in the financial aid field for over 26 years and is passionate about sharing information and helping students and borrowers. She welcomes interaction and questions in classes and will end the session with helping attendees look up their loan information and creating a list of next steps.

Not sure what to do when buying a home? What is all that financial jargon your banker isthrowing at you? MaineStream is a certified HomeBuyer Education provider for HUD and MaineState Housing Authority. Your certificate of completion allows you to access special loan programs through MSHA, FHA, and VA and is good for two years.

This class teaches you how to make good decisions about choosing the lender, real estate agent, and other professionals that will best serve your interests. Become a wiser consumer, when, and if, you purchase a home. You are under no obligation to purchase a home. If you choose to, you are free to use any lending institution, real estate agent, or other professional.

Also, take home some tips and tricks for getting a jump-start on the scholarship search while your child is in middleschool/easrly high school. Join Marie Pelletier, College Savings Counselor from the Finance Authority of Maine for this 1-hour virtual session and get started with saving for your child or grandchild's higher education.

She welcomes interaction and questions in classes and will end the session with helping create (or recover) their FAFSA login information (or recover it) to get ready to file the FAFSA or in some cases complete the FAFSA if attending in 2023-24 academic year. She will share info about upcoming FAFSA help sessions for the 2024-25 academic year.

Medicare 101

Are you ro someone you know turning 65 and have questions about Medicare? When it begins, how much does it cost? Eastern Area Agency on Aging (EAAA)offers free education classes to inform you about Medicare and the important choices you have. 

Zoom classes are available every 3rd Thursday of the month, 1:30-2:30pm. Registration is required through EAAA.
